Col Carl "Freddie" Taylor and Gabby with their Flyers Magazines. Gabby, John and Dave in Texas Crew inteview

OE team members John Holder and George Cummings accompanied Colonel Glen Holder, USAF (Ret) to the Daedalians Headquarters building on Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. This historic venue was provided by, Colonel Robert Karre, USAF (Ret) and the headquarters staff of the Daedalians. The OE team is very appreciative of the location, which provides the proper environment for such an interview, and is just a beautiful building with amazing contents. We again are thankful for the gracious hosting of this event by Colonel Karre.

David and Chris from ‘The Texas Crew’ came down from Austin to shoot the interview of Colonel Holder. David conducted the interview and Chris was the cameraman. John provided Key-Point questions with interview topics and themes for the ‘Crew’ to follow.

The interview was centered on the Air Combat operations of the 8th Fighter Group and the 35th Fighter Squadron Black Panthers (aka Cyclones Flying Circus) during the last quarter of 1943 as part of Operation CARTWHEEL. Specific questions were asked about the ‘First Contact’ encounter of 25 December 1943, when then 1lt G.C. Holder encountered and destroyed a Ki-46 II Dinah which was observing the transit of the allied invasion fleet bound for Cape Gloucester. Also covered was the massive Air Combat engagement the following day 26 December 1943 (D-Day, for the Gloucester invasion).

We would like to again thank the ‘Texas Crew’ team for coming down and doing the shoot, and the folks at the Daedalians Headquarters for a great day with my dad!
