John began scuba diving in the 1950's and today his logbook contains over 11,000 dives all over the world. His history includes a vast military career in the Air Force which began in the Enlisted Ranks and ended 34 years later as a Major. John’s enlisted jobs, over a period of seventeen years, included: Rescue and Survival Technician, Scuba Diver, Parachutist, participant in astronaut training & retrieval programs from Mercury to Apollo. As an officer, over a period of sixteen years, John served as Special Survival Instructor and Intelligence Officer. During his military career, John earned Bachelors and Masters Education degrees. With the education and on the job training that John received, there is little wonder he is a natural leader above and below the water.
His dive shop, Duggan Diving was started out of John’s home and has grown to the present location at 928 Coronado Blvd in Universal City. Having never lost his love or enthusiasm for the sport of scuba diving, John who at the age of 68 still makes several hundred dives per year. Many of these dives are technical and decompression dives. With PADI, NAUI, and TDI Instructor certification, John teaches all recreational and specialty courses. John is currently a NAUI Course Director and John also serves on the NAUI Technical Advisory Board. Duggan is also the lead scuba instructor for the Center For Intrepid Wounded Warrior Sports Project
This project helps soldiers returning from Afghanistan and Iraq who have lost an arm or leg participate in diving and other extreme sports. John’s expertise and pride in the sport of scuba diving are evident in Duggan Diving and the training that you receive from him. San Antonio is lucky to have an expert diver with these credentials.
