Dick is a colorful character that has spent decades running a plantation on Witu Island. Amazingly, living in isolation has not diminished his thirst for knowledge. In addition to being incredibly well read and knowledgeable about many subjects and island lore. He has spent years compiling a lists of local languages, PNG has over 800 unique languages along with the common language of the islands Pigin, which he speaks like a local. He is an avid sports nut using some very clever ways to keep up to date with sport scores from around the world. Dickie has acted as guide and translator for many of the most famous explorers to visit the islands in and near to New Britain. He has a skill for entertaining guests with his special brand of charm.
Born 1939, lived in Bougainville until May 1944 when Australian Gov't ordered all Australians women and children out of Papua New Guinea, due to impending Japanese invasion. Lived in Sydney, Australia until 1946. Returned to PNG, Milne Bay and KoKoPo Rabaul between 1946-1956. Plantation work in KoKoPo 1956-1964 with brief visits to the US and USA. 1965 until today reside on his plantation on Witu Island, PNG. Married local Witu gal, Tau Justina 1972, has 3 daughters, 2 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. Dick has over 50 years experience managing plantations and growing Cocoa/Coconuts. Has expanded his operations to include Black Bean, Teak, and Rosewood Trees which will provide income for his grandchildren.
